Bruce Irvin? That was the question on the mind of probably 99.9% of the Seahawks fans out there including myself. I was very happy with the Seahawks trading back from 12 to 15 and picking up a couple more picks and was even more excited when all the big name defensive ends were still available.

Seattle had its pick of Melvin Ingram, Quinton Coples, Chandler Jones, and a handful of other players. I would have even been happy with someone like Riley Reiff or David DeCastro. But then the pick is announced. Bruce Irvin. I had never really heard of him so my first reaction was “Crap…”. But I started thinking about it and the more I think about it the more I am liking the pick.

What was Seattle’s biggest need coming into the draft? A pass rush. What did they get? Maybe the best pure pass rusher in the draft according to quite a few people. Did Seattle get the next Dwight Freeney? Did Seattle get the next Jared Allen? Neither of those guys are great against the run but they can get after the QB.

From what I have been reading many scouts had Bruce Irvin as the quickest defensive end on the board and his numbers show he is quicker than many of the safetys and CBs in the draft. He can get to the QB and that is what Seattle needs. They do a good job against the run on 1st and 2nd down already with Red Bryant in the game and Irvin will give them a great 3rd down pass rush.

Yeah, he was probably a reach at 15. But I don’t really care. If he is who John Schneider and Pete Carroll wanted and if they had him rated higher than the other ends they should have picked him. Maybe they could have traded back a bit more and still got him but there were 7 other teams who had him in the top 15.  Who know how much longer he would have lasted.

He isn’t a choirboy by any means. Bruce Irvin has a good back story and it seems like his criminal past is behind him now. Check out this video below from the WVU athletic department.

So is Bruce Irvin who most people would have picked with the 15th pick? Probably not. But he is a Seahawk now and that means I will cheer for him every chance I get.

Whatever number Irvin wears next year he will be terrorizing QBs all season long.

OK, the draft starts in a couple minutes but it should be a while before the Seahawks pick so I will give you my final 5 players I wouldn’t mind see the Seahawks drafting at #12. These are not in too much of a particular order and there could always be trades that shift all this around. There are other players I would like as well but these are the 5 I think they might take and I would be happy with.

Quinton Coples – Helps beef up the pass rush

Melvin Ingram – Very athletic and all over the field. Not a pure pass rusher though.

Chandler Jones – Don’t know a ton about him but I think I have to mention him so his brother Jon doesn’t hurt me.

Luke Kuechley – He will be a very good player and make a lot of tackles for a lot of years.

Reily Reiff – It is hard to not like getting the second best tackle in any draft.

Now it is time to wait and see. Luck, Griffin, and Richardson will be the first three with Kalil probably going at 4 to the Vikings. After that? Who knows.

All the NFL teams will have former players announce their second and third round picks and the Seahawks will get to have Walter Jones walking to the podium for them.

There is no better Seahawks for this honor than Walter Jones. He is probably (OK, not probably. For sure) the best Seattle Seahawk of all time and should be a first ballot hall of famer in a couple years when he goes on the ballot. No other Seahawk dominated at their position for as long as Walter Jones did. There were probably a couple individual seasons by Seahawks that were better than Jones but for an entire career Walter Jones was one of the best if not the best left tackle in the league.

I am kinda hoping Seattle makes some big trades to grab a few more second and third round picks so we get to see more of Big Walt up on stage. I am also thinking of wearing my Walter Jones jersey and hopefully when the draft picks shake his hand some of his greatness will rub off on them and we can see a few more future hall of famers on the Seahawks

Will the new Seahawks draft picks look as awesome as Lynch in the new 2012 Seahawks jerseys?

I will not make any claims to being a draft expert. I think I can look at the Seahawks and see what they need and I think I can take the analysis of others and the opinions of others when it comes to draft picks and use that information to form my own, realistic opinion but I can’t compare two players and break down all the differences in them.

So with that said I am gonna play a game of “Would You Rather” and compare a few different choices the Seahawks might have to make come draft day and tell you what I would decide.

From what I can see (barring any trades) there are 4 players that seem to be on the Seahawk’s radar at this time: Quinton Coples, Melvin Ingram, Luke Kuechly, and Ryan Tannehill. Courtney Upshaw is a possibility and maybe someone like Riley Reiff drops and enters the conversation but we will stick with these four for now.  These aren’t necessarily the four players I would have as potential picks but based on most of the mock drafts and other information out there these are the four players most talked about.

Melvin Ingram or Quinton Coples

These are pretty much the two highest rated defensive ends in the draft. Both of them would fit well in the 4-3 and both seem to be good fits for Pete Carroll’s system.

Melvin Ingram reminds me of a young Julius Peppers in that he can make plays all over the field. He is athletic enough to drop off into coverage and he can also get to the QB. Coples seems to me to be more of a defender who will stick around the line a bit more. Both of them are athletic enough to get after the QB and both will give the Seahawks some great flexibility on the D-line with Red Bryant, Chris Clemons, Jason Jones, Brandon Mebane and the rest. We could see some pretty crazy defensive alignments from the Seahawks this year.

My choice: If both players are available (not likely) I would go with Melvin Ingram. I think his versatility will give the Seahawks more options.

Right after I posted this I found this sweet Sports Science video of Quinton Coples. Made me rethink this a bit. Maybe Coples would be a better pick…

For the sake of the rest of the comparisons I will lump these guys together. I think the choices would be the same no matter which one was available.

Luke Kuechly or Ingram/Coples

With this decision you are pretty much trying to decide if you want to get pressure on the QB with a D-end or improve against the run with a solid LB. I think Kuechly could be the safer pick and I could see him as a Zach Thomas or even Takeo Spikes type of player who can have 10+ years of solid play, make 100+ tackles a season, and give you a very good linebacker for a long time. But we remember what happened the last time we took the “safe” linebacker (Aaron Curry).

If the Seahawks can get more pressure on the QB from the D-end spot the Seahawks will need a LB that can cover RBs and TEs on quick routes and I don’t think that LB is Kuechly. It is easier to find a good linebacker later in the draft than a good D-end.

My choice: I would go with Ingram or Coples over Kuechly here. Kuechly will have a great NFL career but I think a pass rush is a bigger key for the Seahawks this year. They are already good against the run so I think they can get by with a later round LB.

Ryan Tannehill or Luke Kuechly

There are a lot of things I like about Tannehill. I don’t think he is a top 5 or maybe even a top 10 NFL QB down the road but with his athleticism and intangibles I think he could be a good piece on an otherwise good team. I don’t see him being better than Matt Flynn or even Tarvaris Jackson this year or maybe even next but he does have potential.

The biggest problem is I see him as a late first round type of QB. Just based on overall value I don’t think he is a good value at the #12 spot. If the Seahawks hadn’t signed Flynn maybe I would think differently. Rather than reach I would rather the Seahawks look more to the best player available within reason. Obviously there is positional need factored in so I wouldn’t want to see the Seahawks go with Dontari Poe or Fletcher Cox (D-tackles) just because they have them rated higher than Kuechly or anything like that.

My choice: Luke Kuechly would be a much better pick than Tannehill in this scenario.  He will be a very good player for a long time and I don’t know if Tannehill is who I want under center for the next decade.

Ingram/Coples or Ryan Tannehill

QB and D-end are two of the more coveted positions in the NFL and as a result teams can reach a bit to find these players. So it is no surprise that there is a good chance two of these three players could be gone by the #12 pick.

My choice: For the reasons stated above I am gonna go with Ingram/Coples here. If you look at the needs of the team I think a pass rush is a greater need than QB at this time. I am also guessing (like everyone else) that Tannehill will be long gone before #12 so the chances of him falling this far are pretty slim.

I will do another post in a few days with my top 5 players I want to see the Seahawks draft at #12 but choices like the ones above will need to be made by every team at some point in the draft.

No matter who the Seahawks draft I can't wait to see them in the new 2012 Nike Seahawks jersey in the fall

The Seahawks schedule is out for the 2012 season. Overall the Seahawks have a pretty tough looking schedule both in terms of the teams they are playing and the travel.

Seattle regularly travels more than any other team in the NFL and this year will be no different. Road trips to Miami, Carolina, Buffalo (played in Toronto), and Detroit will all be some long flights. Luckily they have the Jets, Patriots, Cowboys, Packers, and Vikings at home.

Here are a few more thoughts about the 2012 Seahawks Schedule:

1. Three sets of back to back road games – At the Rams on Sept 30th and then at Carolina Oct 7th, at San Fran Oct 18th and then at Detroit on Oct 28th, and at Miami Nov 25th and at Chicago Dec 2nd. At least the San Francisco game is on a Thursday giving them some more rest between trips and it is good they have the bye week before the trip to Miami.

2. I think the toughest three game stretch is Oct 14-28th with the Patriots coming to Seattle and then at San Francisco and Detroit. Those will all be tough games.

3. Three of the last four games are at home and all four of those games should be Seahawks victories.

4. Without putting too much thought into it:

• Cowboys Sept 16th – Win
• Packers Sept 24th – Loss
• @Rams Sept 30th – Win
• @Panthers Oct 7th – Win
• Patriots Oct 14th – Loss

5. Two primetime games: Monday night against the Packers and Thursday night against San Francisco. Maybe one of the later games gets flexed in as well.

All in all it looks like an awesome schedule. We have some big name opponents coming into Seattle and overall I think we play more tough teams at home than on the road. Only a few more months to go!!!

On April 15th the new NFL Nike jerseys go on sale (or at least pre-order)through NFL Shop and all the official team stores. Well, all the teams except the Seahawks. We Seahawks fans get to wait a couple more weeks until April 30th.

I love how the new grey jerseys look. Can't wait to see them in person.

I will be the first to say jerseys aren’t cheap. I have 14 Seahawks jerseys hanging in my closet and I know they can be expensive. The new Nike Seahawks jerseys will be going for $100 ($250 if you want an Elite (similar to the old Authentic) ) and who is to say if it is really worth it or not. Obviously the materials don’t cost anywhere near $100. But you do have to factor in the value of how fun it is to wear a jersey. It is always awesome to put your Seahawks jersey on, walk down the street, and get high fives from random members of the 12th Man. I love being at the Seahawks games and seeing all the different players and numbers represented. So is it worth it? No idea.

What I do know though is I hate seeing the fake, knockoff jerseys. They usually are off-colored, aren’t durable at all, and just look like cheap pieces of junk to me. These knockoffs are big business. Recently Darren Rovell tweeted:

These fake jerseys are a multi-million dollar industry and with the new Nike jerseys you can bet there will be even more knockoffs available. Hundreds of sites are set up every month to sell this garbage and they are getting shut down quickly. Don’t risk it. I have heard many times of people paying for these knockoffs and getting ripped off.

You can easily spot a fake just by looking at the price. If it isn’t selling for $100 or so (OK, maybe $99.95) I can almost guarantee it is a fake. Also there is a very small group of online retailers that are allowed to sell the Nike Seahawks jerseys. Along with the Seahawks Pro Shop here are three others that will have the Seahawks jerseys for sale on April 30th:

Fanatics.com – Fanatics is my favorite online retailer for Seahawks gear. They have fast 3 day shipping, a great selection, and great customer service.

NFLShop.com – Usually the best selection of Seahawks jerseys. They currently have the new Nike shirts and New Era caps for sale as well.

That’s pretty much it. Those two retailers will have everything you need when it comes to Seahawks gear. Don’t get suckered into buying a cheap knockoff. Get the real thing!

We have all seen the pictures, we have all formed our opinion (although my has changed a few times) but like it or not the 2012 Seahawks jerseys from Nike are here to stay.

One big question on everyone’s mind is “When do these jerseys go on sale?”

Can't wait to see what these look like in person!

It looks like there are a couple answers to that one:

1. You won’t be able to pre-order them on April 15th like the rest of the league. Once again Seahawks fans have to wait a few days but the wait will be worth it.

2. The 2012 Seahawks replica jerseys (now called Game jerseys) will be for sale on April 30th.  My favorite site to buy Seahawks gear is Fanatics.com which usually has a great selection of Seahawks jerseys as well as shirts, hats, and everything else you can put a logo on. If you come back to this site and buy a jersey through here I will make a few bucks and be able to afford more jerseys myself. It won’t cost you any more but it will help me out and I would be very appreciative.

The first jerseys to be released will be the replica jerseys (now called Game jerseys) and they will cost right around $100. In June the “Limited” jerseys (formerly Premier) will be released and they go on sale June 29th and cost $135. The “Elite” jerseys (formerly the Authentic jerseys) will be on sale April 30th as well and will run $250.

As far as which players jerseys will be available there has been some speculation but here are some guesses:

#12 Fan – With so much emphasis on this new Seahawks jersey being on the 12th Man you can bet that #12 will be a hot seller.

#31 Kam Chancellor – Nike had Kam Chancellor debut the new 2012 Seahawks jerseys in NYC on Tuesday so they better have his jersey for sale. This is one I will surely buy.

#29 Earl Thomas – Earl Thomas is one of the best safetys in the game and will be a star for years. I have one of the old style Thomas jerseys but I will want to upgrade that.

#89 Doug Baldwin – After a great rookie season Doug Baldwin should be very popular this season.

#24 Marshawn Lynch – Marshawn Lynch is a major part of Nike’s ad campaigns. No reason not to sell his jersey. Maybe they can work out a deal and give a pack of Skittles away to everyone who buys his jersey.

#15 Matt Flynn – QB jerseys are always popular. But won’t it be embarrassing if Tarvaris Jackson beats him out for the starting job?

#79 Red Bryant – This one might be a bit of a reach since Bryant doesn’t put up great stats. But he is a game changer and deserving of having his jersey made.

The first round draft pick – Most first round picks get their jerseys made.

Maybe we will see Brandon Browner’s jersey, maybe we will see someone like Chris Clemons, but most likely we are looking at the 6 or 7 jerseys above. Of course you could always customize your jersey and get whatever name and number you would like. Which other players would you want to see? Leave a comment below and let me know.

After a few days of waiting the Seattle Seahawk Nike shirts are now for sale! Overall I really love the look of these shirts. The colors are awesome, the new logo looks great on them, and I think Nike hit these out of the ballpark. I can’t wait to see the sweatshirts and jackets which should be released in a few months.

From what I can see there are not many online retailers that have the new Seahawks Nike shirts but they are for sale at NFLShop.com. Overall there are 12 men’s t-shirts and 7 women’s shirts available and I am sure more will be on the way soon. There are also some pretty awesome looking Seahawks shorts for sale too.

Many of the new shirts seem like they are the polyester dri-fit material but this one is all cotton.

3. White Seahawks Helmet Shirt – I first saw a leaked version of this shirt a few days ago and it was the first glimpse of the new helmet. One of the first things I noticed was the stripe down the middle. LOVED IT! This shirt is a bit busier than I usually like but it still looks awesome. It is a tri-blend with polyester, cotton, and rayon. Pretty sweet looking shirt.

4. Blue Seahawks Dri-Fit T-shirt – Once again, simple is best when it comes to shirts. Seattle Seahawks Football. That is all that needs to be said. Like I mentioned earlier there are 12 different Nike Seahawks shirts available but these are my top 5. Do you have a favorite?

Just a few minutes ago Nike, the NFL, and the Seattle Seahawks revealed the new uniforms for the 2012 season. I really wish the presentation would have either been on NFL Network or at least streamed but there isn’t much I can do about that other than complain here.

My first reaction is I love the new helmets and there are some aspects of the jerseys and uniform I really love and some I am not so sure of yet.

I love the 12 feather accents on the shoulders and down each pant leg – Love that this will be something unique to Seattle

I don’t love the font they used for the numbers. Looks a bit odd for some reason.

I love the grey alternate jersey.

I don’t love the white jersey with white pants

I love the blue jersey with the grey pants

I don’t love the lack of Seahawks logo on the arm

I will need to spend some more time looking at the jerseys to more fully formulate my impression of them but overall I like the direction Nike is going. Of course there would be some tweaks I would make but it is nice that the Seahawks are the innovators here and I am guessing they will be Nike’s poster child in the NFL much like Oregon is in college.

I have seen this question a few times over the past couple days. Every other NFL team has a selection of new Nike shirts available and I have to say they are looking pretty good. But nobody has the Seahawks gear for sale. Why?

Well, it isn’t a secret that the Seahawks will be getting new uniforms for 2012. The logo will be updated, the colors might be changed a bit, and the overall design is expected to be different. According to some different tweets from some players who have seen the new uniforms they are expected to be pretty awesome. Kam Chancellor even gets to go to NY to be part of the celebration when the new jerseys are unveiled on April 3rd:

But back to the original question: When can I buy the new Nike Seahawks shirts (and the New Era Seahawks hats for that matter)?

From what I have been hearing from a couple retailers it could be closer to the end of April than the beginning and possibly it could even stretch into the beginning of May. Who wants to wait that long???

This isn’t a matter of the Seahawks being screwed or forgotten by the league or the manufacturers either. I think there has been some trademark issues that needed to be resolved with the new logo and design so they wanted to get that all cleared up before the release. Also the league and Nike wanted to keep the new Seahawks uniforms under wraps until they could properly unveil them.

Seattle will be the only team getting a major uniform update this year. All the jerseys will have new fabrics and new cuts but the Seahawks are the only ones getting a major overhaul and I expect them to be the Nike testing ground kind of like what Oregon is for the college teams.

So we will have to be patient but as soon as they are released I will have them up on this site. Check back regularly or you can go “like” our Facebook page to get all the updated.

I am a sucker for Seattle Seahawks jerseys. I have 15 or so hanging in my closet right now and they range from useless jerseys like Marcus Tubbs and Michael Boulware to jerseys that carried with them a lot of promise like Aaron Curry and TJ Houshmandzadeh to all time greats like Walter Jones and Shaun Alexander to current studs like Earl Thomas and Russell Okung.

Soon (Oh, so very soon) Nike will roll out their new Seahawks jerseys and I will probably spend hours looking at them, trying to find all the jerseys I want, figuring out how I will be able to get all the ones I want, and adding more closet space to hold them. Ever since it was announced that Nike would be taking over the NFL jersey contract from Reebok there has been a ton of speculation as to what the new Seahawks uniforms could look like.

Here is what we know (or at least can assume):

• The jerseys will be made of new fabrics. The Pro-Combat jerseys Nike has been making for college teams for a few years are a lighter, more durable fabric than what Reebok has used and they will most likely be using those fabrics on the new NFL jerseys.
• Most teams probably won’t see any drastic design changes this year. Teams like Green Bay, Dallas, and Pittsburgh will probably never do too much to their classic designs but there are a couple teams that are rumored to be getting some new designs this year: The Carolina Panthers and Seattle Seahawks. Both those teams make sense also. Neither team has a “classic” uniform like the Packers, neither has a huge national fan base, and both could use a bit of an update. The Panthers uniforms are starting to look a bit dated and while I really do like the current Seahawks uniforms there have always been some tweaks that I and many other fans would have loved to see. I would expect other teams like Jacksonville and maybe Buffalo to get an update in 2013 but for now it looks like the Seahawks and Panthers.
• The jerseys will cost more. Currently an NFL replica jersey sells for $85 or so. It is almost a certainty that the new jerseys will be up around $100. Expect similar prices increases for the authentic and premier jerseys.
• Obviously the stars will have their jerseys produced but given how Nike has done things in the past they are sometimes a little slow getting jerseys out for players that come out of nowhere. For example, if Doug Baldwin continues to improve and puts up 700 yards in the first half of the season it is hard to say if Nike will be able to react quickly enough to get his jersey made. Maybe Nike will realize they will need to do things differently with the NFL jerseys but historically they have been slow to capitalize on trends like that.

From what I can piece together from news articles here is what I can best figure out as far as a timeline:

April 1st – New Nike NFL apparel will go on sale as well as the New Era NFL caps (they took over the hat contract).

April 3rd – The new NFL jerseys including the new Seahawks jerseys will be revealed.

April 15th – Don’t take this as gospel but I think this is the day the new NFL jerseys will be for sale on NFLShop.com. I am pretty sure they will be getting the jerseys before the other retailers.

April 27th – Other retailers like Fanatics.com (that is where I buy most of my Seahawks gear) will have the jerseys for sale. This is the day after the NFL draft starts also.

May 1st – New Era releases the “Training Collection” hats. You will probably see a lot of these at training camps.

July 1st – New Era releases the On-Field collection. These are the hats coaches, players, and staff will be wearing on the sidelines.

September 1st – New Era releases the Cold Weather collection. Beanies, ear flap hats, and so on.

ESPN.com came out with some Power Rankings today and right now they have the Seahawks at #22. 

22? Are you kidding me? Do the writers at ESPN really think there are 21 teams out there that are better than the Seahawks? I know as it stands now the Seahawks are not a top 10 team but would they really be as low as 22?

The 12th Man will have a LOT to cheer about this year. #22? Are you kidding me?

I am not totally sure where I would rank Seattle right now. Of course I would like them to be #1 but we all know that isn’t realistic at the moment. When you look at what they have done in free agency, which players they have re-signed, and how well Seattle played in the second half of the season I would guess they should be somewhere around 15 or so.

Looking at those ESPN rankings here are a few teams listed above the Seahawks that I really don’t think are as good as Seattle:

#15 – San Diego Chargers – Other than Phillip Rivers do they really have much? They lost Vincent Jackson in free agency and many of their good players from the past few years are gone. They are team on the downswing.

#16 – Tennessee Titans – Unless Chris Johnson can turn back the clock a couple years this offense really isn’t very scary.

#18 – Carolina Panthers – Yeah, Cam Newton had a great rookie season but I need to see more from them as a team before I would put them above the Seahawks.

#21 – Arizona Cardinals – Kevin Kolb? John Skelton? That combo doesn’t scare me at all.

There are also a ton of questions with teams like the Dallas Cowboys, NY Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, and even some of the higher ranked teams like Pittsburgh and Houston.

We all know (and kind of wear it as a badge of honor) that the Seahawks will never get the respect they deserve from the national media. We know they will almost always be ranked a few slots below where they actually should be. But that is OK for now. Once the season starts in September and the Seahawks start winning games they will slowly climb these rankings. They are building a team that can win for a LONG time and won’t just be a one year flash in the pan (Yeah, I am looking in San Francisco’s direction).

This is all just guessing and dreaming so don’t take any of this as fact or even probability.

It just came out that the 49ers have worked out Peyton Manning and are one of the 3 or 4 teams (Denver, Tennessee, and maybe Arizona) in the running for Manning.  I am guessing this is why they have been slow to move on signing Alex Smith.

Wouldn’t it be awesome if someone else swoops in and signs Alex Smith and then Manning ends up in Tennessee or Denver? Then San Francisco is stuck with picking up a free agent like Charlie Whitehurst as their starter for next year.
